While Serving as a State Senator, Zach Nunn Introduced a Bill to Fine Police Officers for Enforcing the Law
WEST DES MOINES – Zach Nunn proved he is too extreme for the Republican Party when he introduced a bill to defund the police.
Nunn’s bill, Senate File 2002, would fine police officers $50,000 for enforcing federal law.
Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy recently released the Republican Commitment to America, an updated GOP agenda that shows Zach Nunn is out of touch with his own party.
The Republican agenda clearly states that the Party will “oppose all efforts to defund the police.”
“It’s clear the only one in Iowa’s Third Congressional District who is trying to defund the police is Zach Nunn. Police officers should never be fined for doing their jobs and enforcing federal law,” said Paige Godden, spokesperson for Cindy Axne for Congress.
Earlier this month, an Axne-backed bill to better fund Iowa’s police departments was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives. The legislation creates a new grant program designed for law enforcement offices with fewer than 125 personnel so police departments in Creston and Atlantic don’t have to fight cities like New York and Chicago for funding.
Stay tuned throughout the week to learn five ways Zach Nunn’s agenda is too radical for mainstream Republicans.
