Protecting Iowans’ Health Care is No Game, Cindy Axne Says in New Ad
Cindy Axne highlights the experts’ opinions on David Young’s abysmal health care record
In a new ad, Cindy Axne reminds Iowa voters of rejected Congressman David Young’s dangerous record of voting to gut protections for pre-existing conditions and putting his party’s money ahead of the health of Iowans.
The ad, titled “Game,” takes Iowans back to 2017 when – after pledging to oppose a Republican health care bill that would have gutted pre-existing condition protections, created an age tax, and raised premiums on Iowa families – David Young sold out his constituents when his party bosses threatened to pull their financial support.
“When it comes to health care, David Young just can’t get it right. Young said he’d protect pre-existing conditions – but when Washington Republicans threated to pull millions in campaign cash, he caved,” says Cindy Axne in the new ad.
David Young’s defense on protecting Iowans’ health care has been rejected by the experts – and his record is clear:
- David Young tries to hide behind an amendment he co-sponsored that would have restored less than 1% of the cuts that the 2017 Republican health care bill made to help people afford coverage – and the experts say it still would have gutted vital protections for Iowans:
- AARP: The bill “would be devastating for the 25 million Americans 50-64 who have a deniable pre-existing condition…[the] amendment would do little to reduce the massive premium increases for those with pre-existing conditions.”
- Kaiser Family Foundation: The amendment “would be enough money to cover the costs for about 225,000 people, which is only 1 percent of the individual market.”
- Center for Budget and Policy Priorities: The amendment “wouldn’t come remotely close to addressing the severe problems that the bill creates for people with pre-existing conditions.”
- Politifact: “Under the American Health Care Act ‘people with pre-existing conditions are protected.’ – Mostly False”
Cindy Axne has fought to lower the costs of prescription drugs and reinforce protections for preexisting medical conditions. Cindy wrote legislation passed by the House to lower out-of-pocket costs and insurance premiums and cut patient wait times and administrative red tape. And Cindy Axne has never once voted to take away protections for Iowans living with pre-existing health conditions.
“When it comes to protecting health care access for Iowans and fighting to reduce costs for families, there’s only one candidate that hasn’t played games or sold out their vote for campaign cash: Cindy Axne,” said Ian Mariani, spokesperson for Cindy Axne for Congress.
The new ad is on air starting today in both the Des Moines and Omaha media markets.
Full script:
Cindy Axne: When it comes to health care, David Young just can’t get it right. Young said he’d protect pre-existing conditions – but when Washington Republicans threatened to pull millions in campaign cash, he caved.
Cindy Axne: Then, he touted an amendment to try to hide his votes, which AARP said would gut protections for pre-existing conditions.
Cindy Axne: This isn’t a game. I’ll protect people with pre-existing conditions and lower prescription drug costs. I’m Cindy Axne, and I approve this message because we have to get health care right for Iowa families.
