Tonight, Representative Cindy Axne and rejected Congressman David Young shared a debate stage for the first time in two years to compare their records in Congress and share their visions for the future of Iowa’s Third Congressional District.
After 22 months in Congress, Cindy Axne’s record of fighting for Iowans’ health care, economic prosperity, and wellbeing during multiple crises couldn’t be more different from David Young’s record of putting his party bosses and special interest backers first in Washington.
Tonight, Cindy Axne reminded voters that:
- While David Young voted to gut health care protections for millions and repeal protections for pre-existing condition, Cindy has fought to lower the cost of health care coverage and prescription drugs.
- While David Young voted to give massive tax breaks to big corporations at the expense of middle class families, Cindy has fought to protect Iowa jobs from outsourcing and ensure all Iowa families succeed through investments in small businesses and infrastructure.
- While David Young had four years in Washington to help Iowans, after less than two years in Congress, Cindy Axne has worked through crises like floods and a trade war and secured wins for Iowa by working across the aisle – including by reviving critical tax breaks that expired on Young’s watch.
“A small business owner, mother, and fifth-generation Iowan – Cindy Axne has built a strong record of putting the wellbeing and success of Iowa families first in Congress. Tonight, she highlighted her work in this first term and reminded Iowans directly about the dangerous record of her predecessor that is too risky to return to Washington,” said Ian Mariani, spokesperson for Cindy Axne for Congress.
