The Daily Nonpariel: SNAP, ACA help people, David Young would hurt those programs (Letter to the Editor)
October 31, 2018
Most of my life my family has struggled to make ends meet. I grew up where my single mother worked two or three jobs while trying to take care of three children.
Sometimes we ended up not having enough food or resorting to eating fast food for long periods of time, but things have gotten better.
One part of that was when we qualified for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. This program not only helps families like mine. It encourages people to eat healthy food. SNAP encourages people to eat fresh vegetables and fruits with it’s “Double Up Bucks program.” Another plus is that it helps local farmers too.
We also had trouble with healthcare, I still worry that about waking up one day and a family member has gotten sick, but can’t afford the care they need. But, the Affordable Care Act helped to make it a little easier, by expanding Medicaid. Now, we are able to go to the doctor when we need too.
Unfortunately, my family’s well-being is at risk. This is because David Young has repeatedly put my family at risk when he voted for the ACA repeal and the House Farm Bill.
