The Valley News: Carter: Axne will be vigilant with tax dollars
October 24, 2018
By Heidi Carter
The first time I met Cindy Axne was on June 20, 2017. I heard her say “fiscal accountability,” and my ears immediately perked up. I’m deeply concerned about local, state, and federal budgets. It’s my money, and I want to know it’s spent wisely.
Cindy told her story of working for the State of Iowa to streamline government programs. If you haven’t heard about her history working for our state, here’s a quick glimpse. From 2005 to 2014, Cindy helped over twenty, different state agencies deliver government services more efficiently for taxpayers. For example, she was director of leadership development and training under Governor Vilsack’s “Accountable Government Act.” She concentrated on strategic planning and process improvement and saved taxpayer dollars.
At a recent meet and greet, I asked Cindy which committees she wanted to serve on if elected. She told me the Agriculture Committee, because Iowa is a farm state and should have a seat at the table, and the Oversight & Government Reform Committee, because she is dedicated to making government work for Iowans without cutting services.
I looked up the mission of the Oversight Committee, “…to ensure the efficiency, effectiveness, and accountability of the federal government and all its agencies. We provide a check and balance on the role and power of Washington – and a voice to the people it serves…”
I’m voting for Cindy Axne because I know she will be vigilant of my tax dollars. I urge you to do the same.
