Des Moines, IA – Today, Congressman David Young released a new statement claiming he “has always fought for protecting Iowans with pre existing conditions. Cindy Axne, Democratic candidate for Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District, responded to Congressman David Young’s newest misleading claim with the following statement. Broadcast quality video of Cindy delivering the statement is available here:
The video includes three soundbites. The transcript of the sound bites are available below:
Clip 1 / 9 seconds: I’ve always taught my boys that actions speak louder than words, while congressman young’s actions and his votes on healthcare are hurting Iowa families.
Clip 2 / 12 seconds: Congressman Young has voted countless times to increase the cost of healthcare, take away coverage for people with pre-existing conditions, and charge seniors more in what the AARP calls the “age tax.’
Clip 3 / 11 seconds: Well, our healthcare system isn’t perfect and we’ve got a lot that we need to improve, but I am absolutely going to protect people with pre-existing conditions and make sure that we have affordable healthcare for everyone.
Additionally, spokesperson for Cindy Axne for Congress, Madeleine Russak added:
“David Young is lying when he says he’s always fought for people with pre-existing conditions. In fact, David Young has voted multiple times to take coverage away from people with pre-existing conditions,” added Madeleine Russak, spokesperson for Cindy Axne for Congress. “He’s lying to hide the fact that he’s also voted to increase the cost of care, create an age tax, and gut crucial programs like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. And he’s done this while taking hundreds of thousands of dollars from insurance companies.”
Fifty-four days before the election, U.S. Congressman David Young, along with 27 vulnerable Republicans in Congress, introduced a non-binding “resolution” expressing concern for people with pre-existing conditions. The Resolution would not protect a single Iowan with pre-existing conditions.
On March 22, 2017, David Young said he would oppose the GOP healthcare bill. On March 23, the Congressional Leadership Fund announced they would no longer support David Young’s re-election bid. On May 4, David Young caved to Republican pressure and turned his back on Iowans by voting for the American Health Care Act, which would have gutted protections for pre-existing conditions and raised health care costs.
On February 3, 2015, David Young voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act, with no replacement. David Young has voted multiple times to repeal key provisions of the Affordable Care Act.
