(West Des Moines, IA) Today, Democratic nominee Cindy Axne’s campaign for Congress in Iowa’s 3rd District moved to “Toss Up” by Cook Political Report, a national nonpartisan online newsletter. The change makes Iowa’s 3rd District one of the country’s most competitive congressional races. This comes just days after Cindy Axne’s campaign released a record-breaking fundraising number of over $650,000 in the second quarter and a poll showing her four points ahead of two-term incumbent Congressman David Young.
“This ratings change is a sign that voters from Glenwood to Indianola take notice when Congressman Young continually sides with the special interests that pour millions of dollars into his campaign, rather than going to bat for Iowans when it counts,” said Joe Diver, Axne’s Campaign Manager. “This district is ready for a voice that will actually fight for affordable healthcare and a tax bill that works for everyone; that voice is Cindy Axne.”
About Cindy:
Cindy Axne is a fifth-generation Iowan, a small business owner, parent and community activist. She grew up in a tight-knit family on the south side of Des Moines with weekends and summers spent on her maternal grandparents’ farm in Warren County, 4-H activities, and playing 6-on-6 basketball for the Valley High Tigers. Her parents raised Cindy and her sisters to speak their minds and not be afraid to take on tough fights – even when it was uncomfortable. That is the principle that has defined Cindy’s adult life – from working to keep state government accountable to the people it serves, to advocating for all-day kindergarten for every child in West Des Moines, and fighting to fix our broken health care system.
The 3rd Congressional District covers Iowa’s southwest corner, and includes Polk, Dallas, Guthrie, Warren, Madison, Adair, Cass, Pottawattamie, Mills, Fremont, Page, Montgomery, Taylor, Adams, Union and Ringgold counties.
