(West Des Moines, IA) – Today, Cindy Axne, a fifth-generation Iowan, a small business owner and the Democratic nominee for Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District, released the first polling of the General Election showing her four points ahead of two-term Congressman Young. This comes just days after Cindy Axne released her record-breaking fundraising number of $650,000 out-fundraising Congressman David Young by over $110,000.
“Since day one, our campaign has been about improving the lives of Iowa families who feel left behind by Washington,” said Axne. “The energy and momentum we’re seeing is a clear sign that Iowans are ready for new leadership in Congress, and a voice who will fight for affordable healthcare and better education opportunities for all Iowans.”
Cindy Axne is a fifth-generation Iowan, a small business owner, parent and community activist. She grew up in a tight-knit family on the south side of Des Moines with weekends and summers spent on her maternal grandparents’ farm in Warren County, 4-H activities, and playing 6-on-6 basketball for the Valley High Tigers. Her parents raised Cindy and her sisters to speak their minds and not be afraid to take on tough fights – even when it was uncomfortable. That is the principle that has defined Cindy’s adult life – from working to keep state government accountable to the people it serves, to advocating for all-day kindergarten for every child in West Des Moines, and fighting to fix our broken health care system.
The 3rd Congressional District covers Iowa’s southwest corner, and includes Polk, Dallas, Guthrie, Warren, Madison, Adair, Cass, Pottawattamie, Mills, Fremont, Page, Montgomery, Taylor, Adams, Union and Ringgold counties.
