Axne Raises Over $650,000; Average Contribution $6.17; Over 41,000 Individual Contributors
(West Des Moines, IA) – Democratic nominee Cindy Axne’s campaign announced today that she raised over $650,000 in the second quarter (April 1 – June 30), with an average contribution of $6.17 from over 41,000 contributors. During this cycle alone Cindy has disclosed 724 contributors who have given $200 and more compared to Congressman David Young’s 299. Both the total amount raised and the number of contributors are a new record for a Democratic challenger in the district.
About the fundraising success, Cindy Axne said, “I’m incredibly proud of the grassroots momentum that propelled our campaign to this record-breaking quarter. These numbers represent the energy and commitment to hold Congressman David Young accountable for his record of putting special interest groups and corporations before Iowans. I’m humbled by the outpouring of support from ordinary Iowans who are backing my campaign because, unlike my opponent, I’ve pledged not to take money from corporate PACs and instead put Iowans first. As part of my commitment to keeping Iowa families at the heart of my campaign, I’ve held over 100 Meet & Greets in every part of the district, from Glenwood to Indianola, talking with voters to make sure everyone has a seat at the table and nobody is left behind.”
About Cindy Axne:
Cindy Axne is a fifth-generation Iowan, a small business owner, parent and community activist. She grew up in a tight-knit family on the south side of Des Moines with weekends and summers spent on her maternal grandparents’ farm in Warren County, 4-H activities, and playing 6-on-6 basketball for the Valley High Tigers. Her parents raised Cindy and her sisters to speak their minds and not be afraid to take on tough fights – even when it was uncomfortable. That is the principle that has defined Cindy’s adult life – from working to keep state government accountable to the people it serves, to advocating for all-day kindergarten for every child in West Des Moines, and fighting to fix our broken health care system.
