Axne proposes alternate plan to participate in 16 candidate forums, one in each IA-03 county
West Des Moines, IA – Cindy Axne, a fifth-generation Iowan, small business owner, parent, and candidate for Congress in Iowa’s Third Congressional District received a letter this morning from Congressman David Young declaring his intention to participate in just three candidate forums during the next five months prior to the November election (letter attached). In response, Cindy released the following statement, rejecting Young’s plan and requesting he join her in 16 candidate forums, one in each county of Iowa’s Third Congressional District.
“Iowans take very seriously their responsibility to select our elected leaders up and down the ballot — it’s a proud tradition that sets our great state apart and it’s why we’ve earned the honor of hosting the first in the nation Presidential caucus.
“Over the past year I’ve traveled across Southwestern Iowa, visiting every county in this District. In total, I’ve held 100 meet and greet events and dozens of public forums where people told me their stories and I listened to their concerns and answered their questions. I will continue doing this because Iowa voters deserve nothing less.
“Sadly, I received a letter this morning from Congressman David Young informing me of his intention to participate in just three candidate forums over the next five months of this election.
“Limiting the number of opportunities for voters to hear directly from us is the Washington way — not the Iowa way. I believe those who wish to represent the people of this state have a responsibility to show voters the very real choice they have in this election. I hope Congressman Young will reconsider and agree to join me and participate in 16 candidate forums, one in each county of the District.”
