U.S. Rep. David Young’s campaign proposed three debates Wednesday for his fall re-election bid, and Democratic challenger Cindy Axne immediately responded by proposing 16 debates — one in every county in Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District.
“I say, ‘Bring it on,’ ” Axne told the Des Moines Register. “I think that Iowans deserve to hear us across this entire district and that means going out to every single county and having a debate.”
Dylan Lefler, Young’s campaign manager, sent the Axne campaign a letter which said the two-term Republican congressman intends to participate in three debates during the 2018 general election campaign. This includes two radio debates — one on WHO Radio in Des Moines and another on KMA Radio in Shenandoah. The third would be televised and would be hosted by Iowa Public Television at a location still to be determined.
“This election is about the people of Iowa’s Third District, and David understands how important debates are for Iowans as they consider who will best represent them,” Lefler said.
