(Des Moines, IA) Today, former Lieutenant Governor Sally Pederson endorsed Democrat Cindy Axne in Iowa’s 3rd District Democratic Primary. Former Lt. Governor Sally Pederson made it clear that Cindy’s experience as a former public servant, community activist, and mom makes her the best candidate to go up against Congressman David Young in the Fall.
The momentum continues to build behind Cindy’s campaign as this endorsement comes just weeks after Emily’s List, a national pro-choice organization dedicated to electing women, former Congressional Candidate Austin Frerick, and former Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal endorsed Cindy Axne.
Sally said “I’m proud to support Cindy Axne for Congress in the 3rd District Democratic Primary. Cindy has a proven track record of supporting our most vulnerable communities. When Cindy worked for Governor Vilsack and me in state government, she fought to protect our natural resources and held government accountable to delivering better services to the people in Iowa. As a mom and community activist, Cindy took action and helped pass all day-kindergarten in West Des Moines, after finding out that half the children received full day kindergarten while the rest only received half day kindergarten. As our Congresswoman I know Cindy will fight every day in Washington for our Iowa values.”
After receiving the endorsement Cindy said “I’m incredibly grateful to receive former Lt. Governor Sally Pederson’s support. Sally has spent her career fighting for some of the most vulnerable in our communities and I pledge to continue her fight in Congress.”
About Cindy:
Cindy Axne is a fifth-generation Iowan, a small business owner, parent and community activist. She grew up in a tight-knit family on the south side of Des Moines with weekends and summers spent on her maternal grandparents’ farm in Warren County, 4-H activities, and playing 6-on-6 basketball for the Valley High Tigers. Her parents raised Cindy and her sisters to speak their minds and not be afraid to take on tough fights – even when it was uncomfortable. That is the principle that has defined Cindy’s adult life – from working to keep state government accountable to the people it serves, to advocating for all-day kindergarten for every child in West Des Moines, and fighting to fix our broken health care system.
The 3rd Congressional District covers Iowa’s southwest corner, and includes Polk, Dallas, Guthrie, Warren, Madison, Adair, Cass, Pottawattamie, Mills, Fremont, Page, Montgomery, Taylor, Adams, Union and Ringgold counties.
